Ellen Andrea Wang

Bass player, singer and composer Ellen Andrea Wang comes from a musical family in Søndre Land and started to play classical violin and piano before she picked up the double bass at the age of 17. Bjørn Kjellemyr has been her bass mentor at the Norwegian Acadamy of Music in Oslo. She got her big breakthrough in 2010 with the album «Norwegian Song 3», she was featured as one of the «new» big bassists in Norway playing with legendary musicians as Dag Arnesen, Pål Thowsen and Palle Mikkelborg. She plays in progressive rock bands like Synkoke and White Willow and with pop singer Thea Hjelmeland. Ellen has contributed to over a dozen records with various artists. In 2011, she received two talent prizes: Dølajazz talentprize and DNB, Norwegian Bank Cultural Prize. In August 2012 she recieved the award Statskraft Young Star at Oslo Jazz Festival. In October 2012 the Japan Jazz Magazine named Wang «the new star of the month». In November 2012 she recieved DnB’s Cultural Prize by Opplands fylkeskommune. She also received the Tono-award «Challenger of the year» for the song «Call Me»
