Malmö konserthus

This morning (27. mars 2019) I played a morning concert at 08:15 in the wonderful main concert hall i Malmö Konserthus. It must be one of the best - if not the best - rooms in which I have ever performed. To be able to fill the entire space alone with my double bass playing without any amplification, feeling the immediate, well-balanced response from this huge 1700 seat concert hall in even the softest of dynamics was a truly fantastic experience.

Best known for his long-time membership in the OICP Orchestra and leading his own trio, Amsterdam reedist Ab Baars also adapts his skills to other aggregations for greater or lesser periods. Recorded four years apart, these CDs capture two of those associations. Live at Konfrontationen Nickelsdorf 2012 features Baars in a trio which had quite a few gigs in those days, a co-op with German bassist Meinrad Kneer and long-time American-in-Europe expatriate drummer Bill Elgart.

The ongoing climate crisis forces us all to listen, forces us all to make changes in the way we live our lives. Many musicians – myself included – travel a lot, often by plane. Fully aware of the huge impact flying has on my personal carbon footprint, for many years, I have justified my air travels on the basis of

1) a firm belief that art is a vital ingredient in a healthy development of civilisation, and that artists travelling the world communicating their ideas is a necessary and important aspect in this development.
2) the need to make a living.

Solo concerts at Molde International Jazz Festival & Nasjonal Jazzscene in Oslo just announced!

Looking very much forward to performing solo at these two great venues: Nasjonal Jazzscene in Oslo (April 25th - double bill with Tord Gustavsen solo) & Molde International Jazzfestival (July 17th) - opening a new venue for acoustic concerts at the festival.
